Honda will add a 3-door model to its Civic lineup early next year, and the English-built SiR will have more of a performance attitude than the current lineup of 2- and 4-door sedans.
According to Arch Wilcox, national sales manager of Honda Canada Inc, the Civic SiR will be entered into the compact sports-car segment and will "meet the demands of Canadian performance enthusiasts in the market for a sports car with 3-door styling."
The SiR is largely based on the Civic introduced in Europe this year, Wilcox explains, and comes with a DOHC 2-litre i -VTEC engine that produces 160 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque.
Wilcox says the SiR's i -VTEC engine is a "next generation powerplant that combines Honda's patented VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) technology and new VTC (Variable Timing Control). Honda's new VTC system continuously adjusts the intake camshaft phase according to the engine load."
This new system allows for low fuel consumption , low emissions and maximum torque at all engine speeds, Wilcox says, and the torque produced by the new engine provides the widest power range and most linear power band ever for a Civic.
"We have combined sporty European styling with high performance components to create a very special car," says Wilcox. "The sporty body styling is enhanced by the practicality of the 3-door configuration."
