Hot Wheels creator passes Elliot Handler created youth

By ,

Earlier this week, Elliot Handler passed away at the ripe old age of 95. Having founded Mattel with business partner Mat Mason in 1945, he invented the “Hot Wheel” some 20 years later.

Success was immediate but Mr Handler was forced out of the company in 1975.

We can safely say that if you're a carnut today, you have him to thank. We know that Miranda, Mike and Matt all owe him a debt of gratitude as all three pushed their Hot Wheels (and Matchboxes which Mattel acquired in 1996) throughout their youths.

We have it on good authority that Matt actually still purchases and plays with them on occasion...

Mr Handler, millions of kids and adults thank you.
