HPA Motorsports Jeep YJ TDI at SEMA: VW meets Jeep!

By ,

Volkswagen enthusiasts can be found everywhere, and the amount of projects that include cars or engines from the German manufacturer are countless. HPA Motorsports unveiled a rather unique project for SEMA with only one idea in mind: To mate a VW turbodiesel motor with the Jeep’s drivetrain from the flywheel back.

HPA therefore presented a swap kit so that the YJ can welcome a '01-'06 VW New Beetle 1.9L TDI diesel engine in front of the stock Jeep manual transmission. The 100 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque stock engine got cranked to 165 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, which is even better than the stock Jeep 2.5L engine that provided (123 hp and 145 lb-ft). The engine also weighs 55 pounds less.

With this swap kit targeted for the ''do it yourself'' car enthusiast, the YJ will be much more fuel-efficient and will also offer better performance compared to the old stock 4-cylinder Jeep. Three stages will be offered soon, but only one is offered at the moment.
