Rocked by a highly covered episode of corporate espionage since early 2011, Renault has written another chapter in this story by accepting the resignation of Carlos Ghosn’s right-hand man and chief operating officer Patrick Pélata.
The botched investigation that led to the unjustified dismissal of three executives has also gotten the better of general secretary Laurence Dors, human resources director Jean-Yves Coudriou, legal director Christian Husson and security director Rémi Pagnie. All four have been dismissed following an emergency meeting of Renault’s board of directors on March 14.
Shortly after having exonerated the falsely accused employees, an anonymous source filed a complaint with the authorities that led to the arrest of security manager Dominique Gevrey. His fraudulent investigation is at the root of this unfortunate story that will go down in automotive history.
Following an independent inquiry, French Minister of Industry Éric Besson publicly declared that this series of events had revealed “serious dysfunctions within the company’s management”.
Pélata’s resignation, the four dismissals and Carlos Ghosn’s refusal to accept his bonuses and profits from stock options are a sign of the long road to redemption that awaits the automaker.
