Peter Dempsey (O2 Racing) topped the combined time sheet of the two practice sessions on the 2.38-mile, 17-turn Barber Motorsports Park course in preparation for the 40-lap Indy Light event in Alabama.
Anders Krohn, driving the No. 9 Liberty Engineering Racing Special for Belardi Auto Racing, was second while Conor Daly was third in the No. 77 Mazda Road to Indy/Sam Schmidt Motorsports car.
St. Petersburg winner Josef Newgarden was fourth quickest for Sam Schmidt Motorsports car and his team-mate Esteban Guerrieri was fifth.
Canadians Mikael Grenier and David Ostella finished respectively 10th and 11th in the combined sessions.
Qualifications are scheduled for early morning Saturday and the race will be held at 13:00H (ET).
