Randy Bernard, CEO of the IZOD IndyCar series, admitted the series was in dicussion with the Italian circuit of Mugello, along with other potential sites.

A news published in Italian newspaper La Repubblica suggests that the IndyCar series is coming to the Ferrari-owned Mugello road course next September, but it's a long way from being a reality.

"We've had discussions with a variety of potential promoters and that includes initial, exploratory discussions with Mugello," Bernard told the newspaper on Tuesday.

In the past Bernard has met with Fiat officials about the possibility of producing an IndyCar engine. That did not happen.

Next year's IndyCar chedule has a hole from September 1st to October 9th. The Mugello race could be slotted during the period, but time is running out to stage the race in 2013.
