According to reports, the Baltimore Grand Prix is under threat after city’s officials threatened to terminate the contract with the organizers of the event if the group doesn't its debts to the city and vendors.
BRD, which organized the inaugural Baltimore GP, owes the city more than $1.5 million for city services provided and a race event fee.
Organizers said they did not expect the event to be profitable in its first year, but some insiders believed that all studies are showing that it could ultimately be profitable.
The event drew about 160,000 spectators over three days to the 2-mile, 13-turn course on city streets that ran past the Inner Harbor and around Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The IndyCar and the American Le Mans series headlined the event that also featured races from three other leagues. The Baltimore Grand Prix is already scheduled to return next Labor Day.
