IndyCar: Dan Wheldon takes Aelx Tagliani's seat for Kentucky

By ,

IZOD IndyCar Series’ test driver and Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon will substitute for Alex Tagliani at Sam Schmidt Motorsports for the upcoming Kentucky event in preparation for his outing in Vegas.

In order for Wheldon to better get back into the rhythm, Schmidt has arranged for him to drive the team regular Tagliani's No. 77 car next weekend.

Tagliani declared that he did not object to standing aside for Wheldon so that the team and Wheldon could have a better chance at Vegas since the former IndyCar champion has not raced since last May.

"I'm obviously not happy about sitting out Kentucky, but this is a very exciting opportunity," Tagliani said.

"But, I fully support what IndyCar has done to generate fan interest and will do everything I can to help the SSM team run Dan in Kentucky and prepare for the Go Daddy Challenge."

Speaking of Las Vegas, Sarah Fisher Racing will return to a two-car line-up for the grand finale, fielding Tomas Scheckter alongside team regular Ed Carpenter.
