IndyCar: Last farewell to Dan Wheldon

IndyCar drivers and officials joined Dan Wheldon’s family to honour the two-time Indianapolis 500 winner who lost his life two weeks ago in Las Vegas.

Dan Wheldon was honoured at a public memorial service at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Sunday where a large public crowd was also present to remember and celebrate his life.

On a stage adorned by the Borg-Warner Trophy, two bottles of milk to signify his two Indy triumphs and the IndyCar championship trophy he won in 2005, tributes were paid to the 33-year-old.

Fans were able to participate by signing banners in Conseco Fieldhouse, leaving condolences and memories.

Wheldon's funeral had taken place in his adopted hometown of St Petersburg on Saturday, with Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon as pallbearers.
