It has been decided that three heat races of 30 laps each would replace single-car qualifications on the 0.875-mile oval while the top eight fastest cars in combined practice will compete in a third and final heat race, resembling the Fast Six portion of qualifying use on street courses.

The other two heat races will be divided between even and odd-numbered finishers in practice, and will in turn determine the two sides of the grid: heat one deciding the grid from 10-12-14 down, and heat two from ninth to 11th, 13th and down.
