IndyCar: Oil giant Shell to sponsor Helio Castroneves

By ,

According to reports, oil giant Shell is expected to take over the sponsoring of Helio Castroneves’ Penske car next May as the Brazilian will attempt to earn his fourth Indy 500 victory.

After announcing its departure from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup team in April, Shell will become the primary sponsor of Kurt Busch’s Penske Racing effort in 2011 while joining Team Penske as an associate sponsor on all three of its IndyCar entries.

With Verizon returning to sponsor 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series runner-up Will Power, Shell could also do the same with the three-time Indy 500 winner as a phone picture of Castroneves dressed in a Shell-liveried suit appears to confirm a major arrangement between Penske and the motor oil company.
