IndyCar: Tomas Scheckter to replace Justin Wilson in New Hampshire

By ,

Tomas Scheckter will replace Justin Wilson this coming weekend for the Indy 225 race at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Wilson fractured his fifth thoracic vertebrae last weekend when he went off-track in the rough grass of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

To be treated with a back brace, IndyCar’s medical director Dr. Michael Olinher says Wilson is expected to be out of the car for at least three months.

"Obviously, I have a little bit of a backache, but I'm just frustrated to not be at the racetrack," said the driver who was released from the Indianapolis hospital – where he was transported the day after his accident – today.

Although Scheckter was selected for this weekend’s race, his presence has not been confirmed beyond that point.

Scheckter, 30, has 116 IZOD IndyCar Series starts including two victories and 44 top-10 finishes. He finished in 8th position of this year’s Indy 500 race.
