Infiniti recently launched its IPL line of products ( Infiniti Performance Line ) enabling its cars to compete with the high-performance versions of other automakers. There’s an ever more persistent rumour going around about an IPL version of the G Coupe powered by a 3.5-litre Mercedes AMG turbo engine that could generate about 400 hp in this application.
Currently, Infiniti’s G Coupe produces 330 hp. IPL gets that number up to 348, and improves the machine’s suspension and styling. For performance freaks, the eminently more powerful BMW M3 Coupe , with its 414 ponies, is much more interesting than the current Infiniti.
An IPL version of the M sedan is supposedly in the works, swapping the automaker’s mill for a 6.2-litre V8 turning out at least 500 ponies. Could there be a new war performance brewing between luxury automakers? Let’s hope so!
