IRC: Dani Sordo wins Tour de Corse

By ,

Dani Sordo (MINI) won on Saturday the Tour de Corse ahead of Skoda Fabia driver Jan Kopecky.

The Spaniard, who was making a one-off in Intercontinental Rally Challenge on a MINI prepared by french team SMG, concluded the event 17 seconds ahead of Jan Kopecky’s Skoda Fabia, and more than 30 seconds ahead of local hero Pierre Campana aboard his Peugeot 207.

During the first day, Sordo was under pressure from Giandomenico Basso (Ford Fiesta) and championship leader Andreas Mikkelsen (Skoda Fabia). But Basso was forced to retire after an incident in a road section on Thursday, then Mikkelsen lost more than three minutes when he went off on Friday morning, which let Dani Sordo alone in the lead.

It was Sordo’s first major win on the international rally scene.
