Dan Wheldon, from the Dreyer & Reinbold race team (pictured) was sorry for his error that ended prematurely Alex Tagliani ’s ( FAZZT Racing ) remarquable IndyCar debut in Sao Paulo and also disrupted Tony Kanaan's race on Sunday.

Canadian Alex Tagliani, who had qualified on the front row for his new squad, was in the top three when Wheldon slid into the back of him at the end of the long backstraight - pushing the FAZZT car into Kanaan's Andretti Autosport Dallara.

Tagliani had to retire on the spot, while Kanaan, luckier, fought back to 10th after repairs. Wheldon went on to finish fifth.

"I have to apologise for taking Tag and TK out of the race," said Wheldon.

Tagliani remained upbeat despite the incident, and was delighted with the form his team had displayed in Brazil.

"We definitely came here and showed what we can do but it's always a shame to finish like this especially when it's out of your control and it's a race incident that could have been avoided," Tagliani declared.
