HVM Racing will announce today that it has signed Swiss driver Simon De Silvestro to drive for the team during the upcoming 2010 IZOD IndyCar series.
The Atlantic series’ graduate will join another group of woman already active in the series such as Danica Patrick, Sarah Fisher and Milka Duno.
During last week’s official test at the Barber Motorsports circuit, the 21-year old native from Switzerland showed that she will be competitive on street and road circuits although it could be harder on ovals where she has not acquired much experience.
Good news for De Silvestro as her manager secured enough sponsorship for her to take part in the 17-race season with one of the best track engineers around, Canadian Michael Cannon.
On the downside, the recruit will be the only driver in a one-car squad but her boss, Keith Wiggins is confident that he will be able to add a second car driven by a veteran after the season opener in Brazil.
