Indycar series leader Scott Dixon took his sixth pole of the year by beating runner-up Helio Castroneves by more than half a second in the qualification for the Belle Isle race in Detroit.KV Racing Oriol Servia claimed third finishing just in front of Newman/Haas/Lanigan's Justin Wilson . Ryan Briscoe put the second Penske entry fifth on the grid, alongside Wilson's teammate Graham Rahal.Qualifications were not as easy for everyone as a number of drivers were involved in accidents or with car failures as it was the case for EJ Viso who had a suspension failure as did both Ganassi's Dan Wheldon and KV Racing's Will Power when there rear supensions broke in Turn 3 but were able to get back on the track. Tomas Scheckter (Luczo Dragon) and Bruno Junqueira (Dale Coyne) were not so lucky as they were involved in heavy accidents in the first segment. Alex Tagliani will start 21st for his surprise IRL IndyCar Series debut.
