IRL: Series about to get major sponsor

According to SpeedTV.com, clothing manufacturer IZOD is about to sign on as principal series sponsor for the IndyCar, the first one since 2002.

In 2009, IZOD was a major advertiser of the series and spent a reported $6 million. The New-York based company had also contracted the services of American driver Ryan Hunter-Reay.

The new deal is supposedly worth $10 million a year and rumours has it that it includes $100,000 per car plus some help for Hunter-Reay in landing a full-time ride for 2010.

As of now, it is not known whether the series will be called the IZOD IndyCar series or the IndyCar series presented by IZOD and the length of the contract is believed to be three or five years.
