June 2009 Canadian Vehicle Sales Statistics

By ,

It still can't be considered a true revival of Canadian automotive sales, but moral is definitely up with several automakers, which have recorded an increase in sales during the last month. In fact, the Canadian average, a 13.2% drop, is the best recorded since the beginning of 2009.
For some automakers this is the continuation of a positive streak. Particularly in Audi's case, as the manufacturer just concluded its best-ever half-year period in Canada with a 51% increase in sales in June.Other automakers have also had the wind in their sales over the past several weeks, particularly Hyundai and Kia with respective growth of 25.5% and 37.9%, the latter mostly due to the Kia Soul 's remarkable popularity.Other more-than-satisfying results come from American manufacturer Ford, with sales up by 24.7%. For the first time in 50 years, Ford was the biggest seller in the country for the month.Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Acura are also on an upward streak, as is Volkswagen with a 15.8% increase. On a less optimistic note, Chrysler is still steadily sinking into decline, recording a 58.4% drop in sales in June. GM is in almost identical straits, seeing its sales drop by 30.8%. In Canada, 74 028 vehicles were sold in June, a 22% decrease compared to last year. However, sales of light trucks reached 64 472 units, a slight 1.5% increase over last year.
