Kia to offer UVO in Canada

Kia has announced that its UVO communications and entertainment system will be offered in select vehicles as of this spring.

Short for “Your Voice,” the technology developed in collaboration with Microsoft allows drivers to easily manage their music files and hands-free phone by way of voice recognition and a touch screen.

Users will be able to access their audio files and call friends by using either French or English commands, without having to navigate through menus. UVO also encourages interaction and is able to answer queries such as “What’s playing?” as well as provide information on the vehicle’s status, so drivers won’t have to take their eyes off the road.

The 4.3-inch touch screen displays information on the various media (MP3, AM/FM and satellite radio), phone book entries and the vehicle’s status and also features a rear-view camera.

Finally, UVO includes a “Jukebox” feature and a 1-Gb hard drive that can store up to 250 songs ripped from CDs or MP3 players, sorted by title and/or artist, again via speech recognition.

Kia says the system effortlessly links to a wide variety of cell phones, music players and other devices and can be easily updated to accommodate the latest devices on the market.

The Sportage will be the first to benefit from the technology, followed by the new Optima and other models.
