Lamborghini highlights two special models

Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has announced two special, rare models that will hit the road in the near future.The first, called the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo , is being called the world's fastest 'one-make' series. Debuting in May of 2009, the one-off model will be a lightweight version of the Gallardo LP 560-4 super car that was launched earlier this year.

The special-edition 570 horsepower Trofeo weighs in at just 1,300 kilograms. It features permanent four wheel drive for exclusivity in its class, and will be sold to professional drivers and Lamborghini dealer teams. One will be reserved for celebrity "guest drivers" as well."We're delighted to announce The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo," said Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann. "Both on-track and off, our championship will reflect the Lamborghini brand, with extreme, high performance racing and stylish and luxurious trackside facilities. This gives our Lamborghini clients, as well as professional and gentleman racing drivers looking for a new challenge, the opportunity to experience Lamborghini in the ultimate driving environment." Perhaps playing both sides of the field, Lamborghini has also created the only police car with the performance to hunt down speeding Blancpain Super Trofeos on public roads.
2009 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia
Last week, a Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia was donated to the head of the Italian State Police. The LP560-4 replaces the previous Gallardo model used by the department since 2004, and features a 560 horsepower engine enabling a terminal velocity of over 200 miles per hour. The car will begin service with the Lazio Highway Police Department, conducting accident and crime prevention to help sustain security on Italian roads. photo: Lamborghini
