Land Rover North America has decided not to offer Canadian consumers the limited money-back guarantee on the Discovery II model they're offering American SUV shoppers.
The 30-Day Money-Back Discovery Adventure was apparently launched to help overcome the public feeling that there are quality and reliability issues with the Ford-owned British company's newest model, as indeed there are with its older models.
Officials from Land Rover's Maryland office did not offer a reason for that beyond the fact that they were looking into the local legislation to see if it's possible here. It is of course possible, as GM of Canada has shown by offering a better buyback plan for Saturn for some time.
American buyers have been given a "no-risk, 30-day test-drive" of a new 2001 Discovery Series II "to experience firsthand the capability and performance of the famous British 4x4."
According to Howard Mosher, president and CEO of Land Rover North America, Inc., "With over 50 sport-utility vehicles now in the marketplace, consumers are seeking differentiation.We know our product is highly capable, but we wanted to add something else an ironclad, money-back guarantee for the 4x4 buyer." Well, the American 4x4 buyer, at any rate.
