Le Mans 24 Hours: A thrilling battle in GTE Am category

By ,

The Larbre Competition's Corvette C6 ZR1 took victory in the GTE Am class after taking the lead with just fifteen minutes to go.

After Flying Lizard Porsche 997 GT3’s crashed while leading the class, and after the Ferrari F458 hit troubles, the Labre Corvette and the IMSA Performance’s Porsche emerged alone in the lead on Saturday evening, and began a great battle that lasted until the finish line.

With only 15 minutes to run in the race, Pedro Lamy made his move for the lead against Anthony Pons who was driving the Porsche. The pass succeeded.

Lamy, a former F1 driver who also ran for Peugeot Sport in endurance for several seasons, gave Larbre Competition his third victory in a row in GTE Am class at Le Mans.

"Mission accomplished!" said Lamy.

"After what happened to me in LMP1 with Peugeot during 2011’s race, I am delighted with this great result for my return at Le Mans."

Last year, Lamy was forced to let his Peugeot"s teammates Sebastien Bourdais and Simon Pagenaud, who were considered faster by the team, finish the race.
