Current generation: 2018

Planned redesign: it's hard to accurately anticipate the arrival of the next generation of the Atlas, which is after all a near-brand-new product on the market; But we already know that Volkswagen is working on the next version. We can also expect it to offer hybrid modes, all in line with the company's aggressive electrification strategy.

Common issues identified: electrical equipment, electronics, air conditioning, fuel supply and emissions.

Consumer Reports expects reliability to be well below average. However, owner satisfaction is neutral.

5 — Volkswagen Tiguan

Current generation: 2018

Planned redesign: the Tiguan is scheduled to get some mid-cycle TLC in 2021. As for the next generation, we'll certainly have to wait until around 2024. Just like with the Atlas, it’s clear that Volkswagen is already working on this, considering the popularity of the model around the world. An R version is also planned.

Common problems identified: electrical equipment, electronic components, steering and suspension.

Consumer Reports expects reliability to be well below average. Owner satisfaction, however, is neutral.
