Mazda announces Canadian pricing and updates for the CX-70 and CX-90 for the 2027 model-year. Expected in dealerships this winter, both SUVs notably benefit from modifications aimed at improving ride comfort. Plug-in hybrid versions also receive tweaks designed to reduce noise at low speeds.
The return of both SUVs means Mazda is charting a different course here than in our neighbour to the south. The CX-70 is dropped in the U.S. for 2027, where its role will be assumed by a two-row CX-90. Mazda Canada will continue to offer buyers both the two-row CX-70 and the three-row CX-90, which can take in up to eight occupants depending on the configuration.
2027 Mazda CX-70 and CX-90 – What’s new?
For 2027, Mazda revises the rear suspension crossmember on both models. The automaker says this modification will enhance passenger comfort and vehicle handling on degraded road surfaces. We’ll know more about that when we drive the two SUVs.
As for the plug-in hybrid versions, modifications were brought to the electric motor. Mazda notably added sound insulation material to reduce low-speed noise.
A rear seat reminder alert system now forms part of standard equipment across all trims. Availability of the Alexa voice assistant is also expanded. Finally, Navy Blue Mica and Aero Grey Metallic shades are added to the colour palette of both SUVs.
Two electrified options
The CX-70 and CX-90 continue to offer a 3.3L turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. An 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive accompany this powertrain.
In its base configuration, the engine develops 280 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque on regular petrol. GT-P and Signature trims feature a more powerful variant delivering 340 hp and 369 lb-ft (on premium fuel).
Towing capacity can reach 2,268 kg (5,000 lb) when properly equipped.
For their part, plug-in hybrid variants combine a 2.5L gas engine with an electric motor. Their total output reaches 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is also standard. Mazda doesn’t specify the electric range of the 2027 models.
A plug-in CX-70 now cheaper to purchase
The CX-70 plug-in hybrid serves as the entry point for its lineup with an MSRP of $48,999 for the GS-SC trim. The mild-hybrid model starts instead at $50,250 in GS-L trim.
Note, however, that these two versions feature distinct equipment levels. The GS-SC plug-in notably includes a 12.3-inch central display and a power liftgate. Among other features, the 6-cylinder GS-L offers heated front seats and steering wheel and wireless charging, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
At the top of the range, CX-70 Signature models are priced at $62,800 with the 6-cylinder and $68,300 with the plug-in powertrain.
The CX-90 starts at $47,600
The mild-hybrid CX-90 GS is offered starting at $47,600. Its equipment notably includes heated front seats, three-zone climate control and a 10.25-inch central display. The GS plug-in version begins at $49,999.
Prices climb up to $64,150 for the 6-cylinder CX-90 Signature and to $69,650 for the Signature plug-in. These top-tier trims notably add Nappa leather upholstery.
All these figures exclude $2,195 for freight and PDI, taxes, and other applicable fees.
