Mazda3 production hits 5 million units

As you know, the Mazda3 has proven to be immensely popular around the world. Now, 12 years and 10 months after production began in 2003, the Japanese compact has reached 5 million units, Mazda announced.

The milestone was achieved in April. It’s only the second Mazda vehicle to do it following the Mazda Familia (323), which was sold from 1963-2003.

The brand’s flagship car accounts for about a third of its global sales. It is currently manufactured in Japan, China, Thailand, Mexico, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

The Mazda3 has won multiple awards over the years including a few Car of the Year titles. It was also one of three finalists for the prestigious World Car of the Year award in 2014.
