Mercedes-Benz DR 520: even more insane than a C63 AMG

By ,

The C-Class DR 520 is a Mercedes-Benz UK exclusivity, and only 20 copies will be available. Shame.

Based on the C63 AMG , the DR 520 gets performances updates that boost total horsepower to 520, hence the car’s name. The DR 520 is also blessed with 479 pound-feet of torque; that’s increases of 69 ponies and 36 pound-feet, which isn’t a bad upgrade.

In all its glory, the DR 520 is said to rocket to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 299 km/h (187 mph) before an electronic limiter kicks in.

The DR 520 gets the C63’s Performance Pack Plus as well as the high-performance braking system with red calipers. The engine enhancements include forged pistons, new connecting rods and a revised crankshaft.

Available in either sedan or wagon body styles, the DR 520 offers choice of black or white matt paint as well as titanium finish alloys and grille.

Inside, the seats, door panels, steering wheel and upper dash get leather and Alcantara upholstery with red or white contrast stitching.

Nigel Unsworth, Specialist Products Division Manager commented: “We wanted to launch the Specialist Products Division with something unique – and the DR 520 fits the bill perfectly.”

The DR 520 will cost £9,995 above the price of a C63 AMG, which is roughly $16,000 CDN.
