Returning for 2016 after a short hiatus, the third-generation MINI Cooper Clubman finally reveals itself, continuing a week filled with new model launches including the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze and Alfa Romeo Giulia.

The Clubman grows in size and enters premium compact segment with increased versatility and interior space. It now incorporates four doors in addition to the unique split doors at the rear.

In Canada, the 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman will come standard with a 1.5L 3-cylinder engine producing 134 horsepower, allowing 0-100 km/h acceleration in 9.1 seconds. Manual and automatic transmissions are available.

The sportier Cooper S Clubman boasts a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that generates 189 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque (221 with overboost). It sprints from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds with the manual gearbox and 7.1 seconds with the automatic. This model will introduce, for the first time in the MINI lineup, an optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission, enhancing both performance and efficiency, while an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters will also be an available option, providing even shorter shift times and maximum performance.

Want some more numbers? The 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman can be fitted with either 16”, 17” or 19” wheels. It has a length of 4,260 mm, a width of 1,800 mm, and a height of 1,441 mm, along with seating for five and 360 litres of cargo room that can be expanded to 1,250 litres when you fold the rear seats.

Available features include Head-Up Display, the Driving Assistant system including camera-based active cruise control, collision and pedestrian warning with initial brake function, high beam assistant, road sign detection, Parking Assistant, and a rear-view camera. There is also a panoramic glass roof measuring 4' long. Customers can upgrade from a standard sports leather steering wheel to a optional MINI Yours sports leather steering wheel or a John Cooper Works leather steering wheel.

The 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman will arrive at Canadian dealerships early next year. Pricing and additional technical details will be announced closer to the market launch date.
