Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution nears its end

By ,

Mitsubishi will stop producing the tenth-generation Lancer Evolution later this year due to a significant sales drop.

Since launching in 1992, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has sold 92,000 units in Japan and 154,000 elsewhere around the world. However, only 621 Japanese customers bought one in 2013.

As the WRC title holder from 1996-1999, the Lancer Evolution wasn't originally destined for sale outside of its domestic market. The U.K. and Australia began selling the car in the mid-90s, followed by the U.S. and Canada in 2003.

The decline started when the Lancer Evolution withdrew from the WRC.
