Mitsubishi launches Lancer and Prototype X (VIDEO)

The new Lancer's shape is inspired the Concept-X, which was presented at the 2005 Tokyo Auto Show. Bigger in every dimension than the previous generation, the Lancer will be available with a DOHC 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine equipped with MIVEC variable-valve timing.  It will produce 152 horsepower. The engine can be mated to a CVT transmission with a 6-speed manual mode. The GTS model will get paddle shifters mounted on the steering as well.
The Prototype X is pretty much what the next Lancer Evolution will look like. The X gets a new turbocharged MIVEC engine and a 6-speed automated manual transmission. It also includes a sophisticated four-wheel drive system, or course.Mitsubishi also announced its intention of bringing a turbocharged diesel engine to the North-American market, for use in the Lancer in 2010.
