Mitsubishi announced plans to unveil its new Outlander at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition later this month. Focusing on fuel efficiency and launching first in Russia this summer, the new Outlander will likely turn up here as a 2013 model sometime this fall.

In China, the new Outlander will offer either a 2.0L inline-4 or 2.4L four, both with new and improved MIVEC variable valvetrains. Weight reduction comes from high-tensile-strength steel panels, and a refreshed appearance improved aerodynamics.

An “eco-friendly driving system” will notify the driver when he’s driving with maximum efficiency.

Advanced safety technologies will include a Forward Crash Mitigation System, which detects obstacles in front of the car and brakes as necessary; and an Adaptive Cruise Control System that maintains a safe distance from the vehicle in front, even in heavy traffic congestion at low speeds.

The interior is refined to include a piano-black centre panel as well as chrome and silver highlights. Third-row seats are a first in the Chinese market.

Mitsubishi will also bring the compact 2013 ASX (here the RVR) to the Beijing show, which they plan to produce nearby.
