NASCAR: Goodyear makes last minute tire changes

By ,

Goodyear announced on Friday that it was shipping over one thousand different tires to Bristol after NASCAR officials determined unusual and unexpected wear patterns.

“The track is not rubbering in,” explained driver Brian Vickers. “The tire that I raced last year in the spring seemed good and it really rubbered the track in. I’m not sure why we changed them to begin with,” the driver added.

NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton: "Based on the practice sessions for the Nationwide and Sprint Cup series, we will be making a tire compound change for the right-side tires for both series," he said.

"[Saturday], the Nationwide Series will qualify on the tires they had on [Friday] and we'll change those tires during a competition yellow at roughly Lap 25 [in the race]."
