NASCAR: It's Tony Stewart vs Goodyear

By ,

Though he finished second right behind his teammate Kyle Busch (Camry No 18) last Sunday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway Sprint Cup race, Kobalt Tools 500, veteran NASCAR driver Tony Stewart (Camry No 20) blamed maker Goodyear for tires that were, according to him, very bad for the track and unsafe for the type of racing that the Sprint Cup offers. Actually, Stewart was so disappointed that he even lashed back at Goodyear stating the tire maker had been kicked out of major series in the past because of its lack of technology (Tony cited Formula 1, IRL and Champ Car). Goodyear answered back that it had brought the best product possible at the track. The tire maker will come back to test before the fall race in Atlanta but it believes that the new Cup car has to be studied too in other upcoming races. As far as Stewart's statement that Goodyear had not kept up with technological advances and was kicked out of other series, Goodyear answered back by saying it had left other series because of escalating costs... like another important tire maker did!
