Have at it boys, does have some limits in NASCAR.
Nationwide Series driver, Jason Leffler, was put on three-race probation as a result of his actions last Saturday at Nashville.
Leffler was seen to be turning into James Buescher’s car late in the race causing a wreck which resulted in Buescher’s car breaking out in roaring flames, but, the driver was not injured.
Officially put “Leffler was found to have violated Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing – aggressive driving) of the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series Rule Book.”
Unofficially, it was Leffler’s retaliation on James Buescher for an incident earlier in the race
With a loose handling car, Buescher, was racing on the low line under Leffler. He drove up the racetrack, making contact with Leffler's car on lap 44. Buescher continued but Leffler ‘s car needed serious repairs.
Buescher said, in a statement, "the first incident, Jason (Leffler) and I were just racing really hard, swapping positions back and forth three or four times. We went down into turn 1, I was on the inside, he was on the outside, and he kind of crowded me down there pretty good and took a lot of air off the right side of my car. I was already loose and just got loose under him and slid up into him. It wasn't anything intentional at all. I thought we were racing pretty good.”
Around lap 145 Leffler’s Toyota put Buescher into the wall which then caught fire.
Leffler was parked by NASCAR immediately following that incident denied it was intentional. “I always get penalized for things that I don’t do on purpose. I can tell you that my car was really fast there, but it was hard to control. I could have blown a tire or something. We were fast enough to catch a lot of cars that weren’t torn up and drove right back up to him (James Buescher). It’s just frustrating when you get taken out early like that, especially by a car that’s not as fast as you. Who knows what happened,” he said.
NASCAR officials thought otherwise.
