Winning four-straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Championships results in a busy week for Jimmie Johnson.
On Monday, the El Cajon CA native has three appearances starting with the Crest Elementary School he attended. On behalf of the foundation which bears his name he’ll award grants to 11 San Diego area schools.
On a patriotic note then Johnson’s off to Camp Pendleton where he’ll host a fan fest for the United States Marines. That evening he has sponsor obligation’s at a nearby Loew’s store.
On Tuesday it’s off to southern California and Auto Club Speedway in Fontana where he’ll host a Fan Appreciation Breakfast for 700 guests invited by the race track. He’ll also be questioned by the print medias, no doubt asking him “what makes you so good?”
Wednesday finds him at the Champion’s Week venue, Las Vegas. In the morning he’ll be at the Neon Garage, Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s unique fan experience. Speedway and NASCAR officials say other Sprint Cup drivers, car displays and live music will be available. Admission is free. Later there’ll be a $250 (USD) a-person charity roast of the Champ.
Thursday afternoon is the annual Myers Brothers Awards event where miscellaneous awards to Johnson and the top 12 drivers in the Sprint Chase are presented. Also, Rookie of the Year Joey Logano will participate.
At 3:15PM, local time, “Mr. Las Vegas,” Wayne Newton will wave the green flag for Johnson and the Chaser’s Victory Lap on the city’s iconic “strip,” Las Vegas Blvd. (New York had abandoned the practice after NASCAR tied up the Big Apple streets.)
Friday is the culmination of the week, the annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Awards banquet, taking place at the Wynn’s Las Vegas. It starts at 6PM Pacific Time.
