Some drivers stayed at home for the Easter weekend, enjoying some of the rare time off the get racing NASCAR… not Martin Truex Jr.
"I've always been into R/C cars and trucks and built them since I was a little kid," Truex said on NASCAR's website.
"When I moved to Lake Norman [N.C.], I figured I needed to get a boat. I bought one and I really wasn't very happy with it so I did some research and started to build my own.
The Michael Waltrip Racing driver is in Huntsville (Ala.) for Easter, taking part in an R/C boats competition. Truex – who already holds three world records – wants to beat his straight-line speed record.
"I'm going to try and go after a straight-line record, which is a straightaway speed," Truex said of the one-sixteenth of a mile Nitro Straight Away competition. "The record I'm trying to beat with a little 3.5cc engine is 103 mph. My goal is to go at least 105 mph."
