NASCAR teams meet in Phoenix for the next to last weekend

By ,

All three NASCAR series will be competing this weekend at the Phoenix International Raceway for the next to last event of the season. All eyes will be on Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) who might assure his third championship in a row unless he fails and his pursuer Carl Edwards (Ford No 99) steals away some of his points. Johnson and the other NASCAR Sprint Cup teams will be in action on Sunday afternoon for the Checker O'Reilly Auto Part 500 around 4:00 pm on ABC, TSN and RIS (French). As far as the Nationwide teams are concerned, they will be racing at the same venue on Saturday afternoon in the Hefty Odor Black 200 to be seen on ESPN and TSN2 at 4:00 pm. Canadian D.J. Kennington (Dodge No 81) should qualify for that race. Finally the Craftsman Truck series will also be running its next to last race of the year, the Lucas Oil 150 on Friday evening still at the Phoenix International Raceway (to be seen on SPEED TV) as only six points separate point leader Johnny Benson (Tundra No 23) from runner-up Ron Hornaday (Chevy No 33). photo: NASCAR
