NASCAR: The Sprint Cup stars at the Daytona 24

By ,

The racing season has really gotten under way last weekend with the annual Rolex 24 at Daytona . A few NASCAR drivers took part in the event won by the Donahue/Garcia/Rice/Law team driving a Porsche-Riley. Among them was Juan Pablo Montoya who almost won the event. He had to settle for second place in a Lexus-powered Daytona Prototype car belonging to the Ganassi team.

Part-time NASCAR driver Scott Pruett co-drove with him while three-time NASCAR champ Jimmie Johnson ended up seventh. He probably was the only NASCAR driver who was injured as he...cut a finger with a knife while working on his racing suit! Casey Mears was eighth, Kyle Petty (who hopes to do more road racing) finished 44th while part-time racers Max Papis and Boris Said finished 36th and 48th. Obviously, all eyes were on Montoya who proved he was not only a great Indy Car, Formula 1 and NASCAR driver but also a fantastic endurance race driver. How will Montoya perform this year in NASCAR now that his team has moved from Dodge to Chevrolet? That remains to be seen. photo: Grand-Am Series
