NASCAR will be racing at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina this weekend. The Nationwide drivers are off but the Craftsman truck drivers will be competing Friday evening on the 1.5-mile quad-oval track. The Sprint Cup team will be in action on Saturday evening. But their race will not be part of the actual Championship. Instead, Sprint Cup drivers will run for money only in the All-Star 100-lap race, the first-place winner taking away some $ 1 million dollars! To get in the race, all but two drivers qualify by having won at least one race in the season (up until Atlanta) or the previous season, by winning the Sprint Showdown amongst non-winners that will be run just before the main event (Canadian Patrick Carpentier - Dodge No 10 - will be part of that race), by being a former Sprint (Nextel or Winston) Cup champion (but still being active) or by having won the All-Star race in the last 10 years. Two additional drivers will join the select group of drivers: the second-place finisher in the Sprint Showdown and one driver that will be voted in by the fans. The event will be televised at TSN from 7.00 pm Saturday evening.
