Pete Shepherd III earned his first ever victory in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series as DJ Kennington ends up in third and wins his first ever title at Kawartha Speedway, during the season finale.
He became the fourth different winner in four visits by the series to the .375-mile Kawartha track. The 24-year-old led a race-high 124 laps in what was only his ninth career series start.
Kennington had finished twice as a runner-up in the championship standings in 2007 and 2009. With his championship, he earned a starting spot in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, the prestigious postseason event that has earned the title as the 'Daytona 500 of short-track racing.'
Mark Dilley finished behind Kennington in fourth Saturday, followed by Thomson.
Kennington gained third on the last lap after a contact between Kerry Micks and JR Fitzpatrick for second led to a spin by Fitzpatrick in Turn 4. Kerry Micks ended up second while Fitzpatrick ended up in 15th.
