Frankfurt 2015: Kia presents fully redesigned Optima Next-gen Kia Optima presented at Frankfurt Auto Show

By ,

The next-generation Kia Optima made its European debut this week at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show. The world premiere took place in New York back in April, and the car is scheduled to go on sale later this year.

In North America, the new Optima will offer a choice of three engines including a brand new 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder producing 178 horsepower (with a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission), a 2.4L GDI 4-cylinder rated at 185 horsepower, and a 2.0L turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder that generates 247 horsepower (the last two with a 6-speed Sportmatic autobox). A plug-in hybrid system will even join the lineup in 2016!

While the exterior has not changed a lot, the interior boasts more passenger room, a larger centre console, and an advanced infotainment system with 8” display. Among the many available safety features, you’ll find autonomous emergency braking, intelligent cruise control, road sign detection, and more.

New Optima GT… for Europe
Kia also announced the launch of the more powerful Optima GT in Europe. Output has yet to be specified for its 2.0L T-GDI engine. This model will hit the market next year, and keep your fingers crossed for a North American release.
