New Yorkers Give Microcars a Big Welcome

By ,

Small cars are big this year at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), but not only contemporary ones. Besides the bold little Scion iQ and the surprising smart fortwo , the Vintage Microcar Club of Evanston, Illinois has a display of its own with a tiny star: a 1965 Peel P50 owned by the Lane Motor Museum of Nashville, Tennessee. "Recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as 'The Smallest Production Car Ever Made', the P50 is a hit with show goers large and small," said John LaSorsa, NYIAS Chairman. This minuscule three-wheeler seats only one person and is powered by a 50cc 2-stroke motor. Of the 46 originally produced only 22 survive today. photo: New York International Auto Show
