Next-gen MINI to start from scratch

By ,

BMW Group chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk has revealed to Autocar that the next-generation MINI will start ''from a near clean sheet of paper'' and represent a ''bigger design leap than the last one".

Other sources have said that the company has been working on a new interior design language to replace the theme of the large, centrally-mounted speedometer, a distinctive feature of the current MINI.

No one knows where the design team will draw inspiration from for the third-generation model, but van Hooydonk was seen examining the new interior of the Hyundai Veloster at the Detroit auto show. Coincidence?
