Korean brand Hyundai crashed the luxury-sedan party two years ago with the Genesis sedan, but one element it lacks to really go head-to-head against the competition is the availability of all-wheel drive.
While it may be irrelevant in Texas, all-wheel drive versions of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and Lexus GS represent a strong proportion of their sales in northern parts of the US, and especially in Canada.
According to Inside Line , Hyundai Motor America president and CEO John Krafcik recently stated that when the Genesis will be redesigned for the 2014 model year, it will likely be available with an all-wheel drive option.
Offering two different V8 engines in the Genesis—a 429-horse, 5.0-litre V8 was added to the 2012 model—also represents a cause of concern at Hyundai, and at some point, they could retire the 4.6-litre unit. That’s not a problem in Canada, as we’re only getting the 5.0L V8 from now on, anyway.
