The financial crisis continues to impact the Detroit Auto Show that will be held next January. The list of absent manufacturers is getting longer by the day, two months before the official opening of the event.
Most recent on the list is Nissan, which is not only pulling its own line of products from the show but also that of its premium brand, Infiniti. The manufacturer says its decision is based on the current economic conditions and the necessity of concentrating on the availability of its funds.Nissan believes that its appearance at the
Los Angeles Auto Show , where it launched the new
370Z and Cube , was sufficient for the American market in 2009 and that its presence at other shows isn't necessary. Nissan/Infiniti is also the first manufacturer to pull out of the Chicago Auto Show in February.Adding to the dismay of the Detroit organisers, another big Japanese automaker, Mitsubishi, has also cancelled its participation for 2009. Currently, 10 manufacturers or brands will not be represented at what is historically the biggest auto show in the world: Aston Martin, Ferrari, Infiniti, Land Rover, Lotus, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Rolls-Royce and
Suzuki .
