Nissan-Daimler: Technology Sharing for the Q30 and GLA?

By ,

According to Reuters, Nissan and Daimler, who, in 2010, signed an agreement to share platforms, powertrains, and other components, could very well get together in the near future to produce small luxury vehicles such as the Infiniti Q30 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA at the Aguascalientes, Mexico assembly plant.

The assembly plant, planned for 2014, was initially slated to build the Q30, but sources have informed Reuters that the GLA, among a number of possible models, may be co-assembled at the Mexican plant. The production version of the Mercedes-Benz GLA, which will be launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show next week, will initially be built at the Rastatt facility in Germany.

As for the Infiniti Q30, it’s the first Nissan product built with the Daimler platform. It will also be launched in Frankfurt, as a concept vehicle.

Representatives of both companies were cautious in their comments regarding their respective future models.
