To mark 35 years since the original Sentra SE-R debuted in North America, Nissan has presented the Sentra Spec-V concept, ahead of its in-person unveiling at the 2026 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas.
Reviving a performance badge last seen in Canadian showrooms on the 2012 Sentra 2.5 Spec V, the stick-shift concept presents a track-focused vision that puts it in the same general basket as the Hyundai Elantra N and the Honda Civic Type R.
Currently, for the 2026 model-year in Canada, the production Sentra Nissan is offered strictly with a 149-hp 2.0L engine paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), across S, SV and SR trims.
Powertrain of the Nissan Sentra Spec-V concept
The biggest modification is under the hood, of course. Nissan replaced the standard naturally aspirated powerplant with a heavily modified turbocharged 2.0L MR20DD 4-cylinder engine. Augmented by a Garrett G25-550 turbocharger and a front-mounted intercooler, the engine features internal upgrades including Carrillo connecting rods, forged JE pistons, 10:1 compression and supplemental port injection via 550 cc Bosch EV14 secondary fuel injectors.
Total output reaches 300 hp, exiting through a custom side-exit exhaust system. Power is routed to the front wheels via a modified 6-speed manual transmission sourced from the Juke NISMO RS, complete with a helical limited-slip differential.
To manage the quadrupled horsepower output, Nissan fitted the Sentra Spec-V concept with severe braking and chassis hardware borrowed directly from the R35 GT-R NISMO. Notably, the car gets front R35 GT-R NISMO Brembo six-piston calipers gripping 390-mm two-piece rotors, paired with four-piston rear calipers and 380-mm rotors. It rides on forged 19 x 9.5-inch NISMO LM-RS1 wheels wrapped in 265/35R19 Yokohama ADVAN NEOVA AD09 extreme-performance tires.
For the suspension, Nissan added a track-oriented version of NISMO Sentra coilovers with external-reservoir front dampers. Custom anti-roll bars provide extra protection.
Design of the Nissan Sentra Spec-V concept
Visually, the concept takes the production Sentra and gives it a custom BOMEX widebody kit, a functional vented hood and a carbon-fibre rear spoiler taken from the R35 GT-R NISMO.

Inside, the cabin houses GT-R NISMO Recaro bucket seats, a harness bar, and a NISMO steering wheel.
Additional Z Concepts at SEMA 2026
Displaying alongside the Sentra at the Las Vegas Convention Center from November 3 to 6 are two performance Z builds:
Project NAT2 - This SCCA Touring 2 race car built by the volunteer Nissan Acceleration Team uses a restricted VR30DDTT V6 and a full roll cage.
Datsun S30 Restomod - Built by Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg, this car combines a classic first-generation Z body with carbon-fibre body panels and the twin-turbo V6 and 6-speed manual from the current Nissan Z.
Nissan took pains to explain that the Sentra Spec-V is strictly a prototype and not available for purchase. On the other hand, we know that previous SEMA concepts have inspired future production accessories and trim packages, so who knows what will out of this concept. Probably something. Auto123 will be at SEMA next week and taking a close look at all of the big reveals, including this one. Stay tuned.
