Making its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the Nissan Hi-Cross crossover concept heralds a “possible new design direction” for the company. In other words, yes, this is where they’re going.
With a family resemblance to the Murano, Rogue and Juke, the Hi-Cross offers three rows of seats, making room for seven. The hybrid powertrain uses a Nissan-developed lithium-ion battery (technology learned from the Leaf), an electric motor, and a 2.0-litre direct-injection gas engine for the performance you’d expect from a 2.5-litre. It’s linked to Nissan’s new generation XTRONIC CVT.
Nissan, who claims in its release to have created the segment with the Murano (we’ll pretend not to have noticed that the RAV-4 came out several years prior), says the Hi-Cross is a compact yet surprisingly roomy crossover that combines existing Nissan design cues with new elements, set off by bold 21-inch alloy wheels. A distinct character line extends from the hood down its flanks to the D-pillar; inside, the cockpit is dominated by a T-wing-shaped dash.
