Those who were expecting a hybrid variant of the new Land Rover Evoque will have to make do with a fuel-efficient gasoline-powered model instead. In other words, the company's baby crossover won't follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, the LRX Concept .
''Our approach to Evoque is more viable for the company and customers because hybrid technology on a relatively small car would load the price and add weight,'' claims Land Rover’s global brand director John Edwards. ''Our engineers have done a great job reducing weight on Evoque.''
Edwards went on to say that the hybrid powertrain will be applied first to heavier vehicles, including the next-generation Discovery.
