French car manufacturer Peugeot put his two 908 turbo diesel cars on top of the timing charts Thursday in the first practice session of the American Le Mans Series's round of Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
The Le Mans-winning Audi R18s were quickest for much of the session until the Peugeots made their charge with 20 minutes to go.
IndyCar interim driver Simon Pagenaud set the fastest time overall followed by the other Peugeot of Stéphane Sarrazin.
Swiss Marcel Fassler ranked third in the best placed R18, followed by Dindo Capello in the other Audi.
Marino Franchitti, the brother of IndyCar star Dario, set the fastest time in the LMP2 category in the Level 5 Honda.
In GT, Toni Vilander emerged fastest in the AF Corse Ferrari, just 53 thousandths of a second clear of Dirk Muller in the lead BMW M3.
Fifty-four cars circulated the Road Atlanta road course during that initial test session.
